Patrick Schaefer: Introduction To A Future Real Estate Broker

Hello everybody! My name is Patrick Schaefer and I am a Marketing major in my 5th year here at OU. I will be graduating in May and honestly cannot believe how fast it has gone by. College has certainly been a challenge but a good one and a fun one at that. I have had many ups and downs, many good semesters and some bad semesters but i am still on my feet prepared to graduate here in a few short months. It seems like yesterday I was moving into the dorms with two of my high school buddies. As far as last semester goes, I ended with a 3.8 so that was a great accomplishment. My favorite class of last semester was a marketing strategy and policy class that was very unique and unlike any class I have ever taken. Some facts about me are I am from and have grown up right here in Norman all of my life so I am more than familiar with the city of Norman and the University of Oklahoma. Both my mom and dad are OU Alum so I really had no choice but to come here.... just kidding I really wanted to come here on my own. I currently work for a property management company here in Norman and plan to work there after I graduate along with getting my real estate license right after I graduate! Another interesting fact about me is that my girlfriend and I have a golden retriever named Chance who is almost three years old. I have grown up around golden retrievers all my life and one day decided that I wanted one of my own so now I have one and I don't know what I would do without him. He is our life and our schedule's revolve around him. A couple of other random facts are I have a brother who is also an OU Alum, I am a HUGE Oklahoma City Thunder fan and obviously an OU basketball/football fan. I look forward to getting to know some of you over our blogs within the the next few months.

  1. Congratulations on getting ready to graduate, Patrick! And real estate is such a diverse field of business to go into — you get to connect with people, with places... and connect people TO the places, which is very cool. I know it might sound weird now, but real estate is actually a really good storytelling strategy too: lots of stories feature a home of some kind, and it's fun to imagine seeing the home as a real estate agent would see it, the home's strengths and weaknesses, what kind of pitch he would make to potential buyers, how the story of the house can be a selling point, etc. etc. So that might be something you play around with this semester... it could even turn into a really cool style for a Storybook! Fairy tale castle real estate! Haunted house real estate! Lots of possibilities. :-)

  2. P.S. Patrick, I just noticed you don't have your blog labels set up, so review that part of the Introduction assignment; you need to set up the labels so people can use that to navigate your blog as you add more and more posts. So, go back and do PART TWO of that Introduction post assignment; it explains all about adding labels to your blog sidebar.

  3. Patrick,
Congrats on your last semester! I'm right there with you on how fast the time has gone by. I am almost done with my junior year and can not believe it. nice work with the GPA. It is always easier getting the good grades when you are going into something you enjoy. Thats great you have Chance. I have a dog of my own but wasn't able to bring here to my apartment due to the do dog police. Also she is an outside dog and I would never want her to be locked up in such a small place all day. I take my dog, Shade hiking with me all the time. She loves it and she is truly my best friend.

  4. I can relate to feeling like time has zoomed by because I graduate this may as well. It really is crazy how fast college goes by. I'm really glad that it sounds like you have a good plan for after you graduate. I have a cousin that is in real estate and she really loves it. I think it is really great that you have a dog here. My apartment does not allow pets and I really miss my dog, Reba, back home. Hopefully some day I can get a dog (and a cat) of my own! I look forward to getting to know you this semester and hope it is a good one for you!

  5. Hi Patrick! Congratulations on almost graduating! I am a junior and have felt that college has flown by myself! That is so cool that you have a dog. I really want to have a dog when I graduate, but we will have to see! I have several animals back home and I miss them a lot while I am up here. Also, I am a Dallas Mavericks fan because I grew up in Dallas my whole live, but the Thunder are my second favorite team. I look forward to reading more of your work this semester!

  6. Hey Patrick! First off, best of luck after graduation in the "real world"! College seems to go by in a blink of an eye and I am not looking forward to the day when I have to tell OU goodbye :(. I bet Chance is adorable! Golden retrievers are so sweet and loyal. I am also a Thunder fan, but maybe not as intense as you! I am a huge OU sport fan, so I can relate to begin a dedicated fan. Goodluck with your last semester! Enjoy it!

  7. Hi, Patrick! That is so exciting that you will be graduating in May. Good luck and congratulations in advance! I am an advertising major so I have taken a couple marketing classes here at OU, and I've enjoyed taking these classes in Price for a change of pace.
That is so cool that OU is like a tradition in your family! I also have an older sibling that went to OU, but neither of my parents went here. I am from the large city of Fort Worth, Texas, but i personally love living here in Norman.
Golden retrievers are my absolute favorite dogs. Your dog Chance sounds awesome! I have a yellow labrador named Nellie who I'm obsessed with.
Best of luck to you in your last semester at OU!

  8. Hi Patrick! It is so nice to meet you and hey, happy early graduation! It is such an accomplishment and definitely a happy time in life! I bet having your dog has helped you get through all the tough tests and studying! I find that a little bit of K9-therapy is the best kind of medicine. And I also love that you named him Chance, that's absolutely adorable! I wish you all the luck in the world with entering into the real world and thriving at every experience thrown at you! Nice getting to know you a bit more!

  9. Hey Patrick! It was nice getting to know a little bit about you through this post! I also love dogs, and would definitely have one of my own right now if I didn't have to go to graduate school. Like you said your life revolves around your dog, and I would feel too bad leaving a pup home alone most of the day. It's exciting that you are about to graduate soon, and I hope you get to make the most out of your last semester of college!

  10. Hey Patrick! I am Cassie! I love that you love the Thunder because I am also a HUGE fan! I have named 2 of my cats after thunder players/ previous thunder players. Thabo and Collison! It was a shame that Thabo went to Atlanta, but I was born there so I still had some connection to him haha. Golden retrievers are some of the best dogs and I plan on having some of my own some day too! My friend recently got a golden puppy and she is the love of my life at this moment! I go to his house and steal her once a week and go on a walk and we just have girl time! Good luck on your last semester in college! Finish strong!

  11. How exciting that you are graduating this May, I agree with the fact that time seriously flies by when you're in college. I love golden retrievers. If I had any dream dog for my future that would be it. Sadly right now I can't get one because of my landlords and all that jazz... but hopefully soon! I have a friend whose parents are both realtors and I think it is one of the coolest jobs. Maybe you and your gf could own a reality business together some day like them, if that's even anything closely related to her major haha!

  12. It must feel really, really to almost be done and graduate in May. I am ready to be at that point, but I still have a little bit more time. I think it is great that you have your career lined up and you know what you want to do! I love going to Thunder games, I have been to about 14 games this season. The games are a lot of fun, even though I am not a Thunder fan haha. I do want to go to a Playoff Game once!

  13. Patrick, nice intro! congrats on being only a few months short of graduation. That is a great accomplishment for anyone. Your dog is like the child of you and your girlfriend. I'm sure you both have a great deal of love for the dog. Yes, a lot of Oklahoman's love their Thunder and Sooners. Good luck on everything you do after graduation!

  14. Hi Patrick! I am graduating in May as well and I completely agree with you that it has gone by insanely fast. However, I’m actually ready to graduate. I have been dreading it for awhile, but I think I have finally come to terms with it. That’s great that your major is marketing and that you ended with a really high grade point average!

  15. Congratulations on almost being finished! 3.8 is a great GPA! That’s really exciting. I’m not done until December but I agree, the time goes SO fast. I still remember thinking it would be FOREVER until graduation but the time goes so fast. It’s great that you already have a job lined up after college and that you have a game plan. I wish you the best of luck!

  16. Hi Patrick! I am an advertising major so I’ve had to take a couple of marketing classes and I’ve loved them! That’s awesome you’ll be graduating this May and already have a job all sorted out. Congratulations! It’s crazy how time flies in college; I’m definitely not ready to graduate now as I’m at the end of my junior year here at OU. Golden retrievers (and labs) are my absolute favorite kind of dogs! I can’t wait to have one of my own. Good luck with your last couple of weeks before graduation!

  17. Hi Patrick! I'm an MIS major, so I did have to take a Marketing class, and was actually considering minoring in Marketing at a time, but then decided against it because I didn't want to take 18 hours... I have ALWAYS wanted golden retrievers! I really wanted to get a dog this last year, but I knew I would not have enough time to take care of it so I didn't. Graduation is coming soon! I'm excited!

  19. Hi Patrick, it is nice to meet you! That is so awesome that you are graduating and have a job! I am graduating in May also… but I am still searching for a job in OKC. I am a huge fan of golden retrievers as well! I think they are the best pets ever. OKC Thunder is awesome. I hope to go to a lot of the games next year since I am moving to the city. I hope you have a great last couple weeks of school!

  20. Hey Patrick! I had a golden retriever growing up, they are the best dogs! I will have a soft spot for them for the rest of my life. I've been watching the playoffs too, hopefully we will get a more interesting second round. The series this year have been pretty lopsided thus far. I can't wait to graduate next month either! Surreal feeling
